FRIDAY, I'M IN LOVE
As promised, here I present some tips to work a song like "Friday, I'm in Love", by The Cure. Apparently, this is not an easy song to work with 2nd level of Primary, but even the difficult authentic material could be worked easily with a little preparation.
* Pre-teach some language: Here, for example, students already know the days of the week.
* Pre-listening tasks: Ask the students what's their favorite day of the week. Before listening to the song for the first time, ask them a simple question to find out. For example: What's the singer favorite day of the week?"
Sometimes you'll find amazing answers. For example, recently a student not only told me that the singes favourite day was "Friday", but he also told me that the song "Said all the days of the week".
* I give them some cards with different colours, one for each day of the week. Then we listen to the song again and ask them to raise their card when they listen the day of the week they're holding.
This way, you could easily see how many of them are listening and understanding the days of the week in the song.
* Ask them to learn a part of the song, use gestures to elicit the meaning, etc…
These are only some tips. Try to find out new ways of working authentic material. It's English for the real world!

DAYS OF THE WEEK
Hi again!
Find here two musical videos to work DAYS OF THE WEEK in the class.
One of them it's very simple and quite "sticky" to use with first graders:
The other it is very fun and I used it with second and third level. There are many ways to work an apparently "difficult" authentic English material like this one with beginners. I'll tell you more about in in my next post...
